The days of basement game rooms with mini fridges are long gone.

Today’s recreation spaces are full-fledged man caves, complete with high-definition plasma TVs, well-stocked wet bars, pool tables, wireless Internet, video gaming consoles, and high-end furniture.

These in-home retreats can have anything from mini gyms to bandstands and aquariums to retro arcade games. Man caves are personal spaces that can be tailored to any personality, interests, and hobbies, and they’re areas that see a lot of traffic.

That makes man caves ideal settings for custom metal furniture.

By integrating custom metal pieces such as small metal tables, NYC man caves can achieve a sleek, masculine aesthetic without wood pieces that are prone to water damage, nicks, dings, and scratches. At TMRnyc, we’ve created a variety custom metal furniture ideal for man caves.

One of our favorites is the Pipe Bomb Bar. We love the overall look of this piece, with its hand-rubbed blackened patina, just about as much as we love the name we came up with for it.

It’s the ultimate man cave accent furnishing, great for serving up drinks during the game and just as effective as a DJ stand for those nights when the tunes are really cranking. The hammered finish adds a subtle texture that really makes this piece stand out, even as it blends well into any masculine décor.

Are you building a man cave of your own? Give us a call and see what custom metal furniture can do to set your space apart from the rest.

The call came in last Tuesday afternoon right before Thanksgiving.

Jack Gold, owner of Presidential Interiors and the millwork contractor on the build out of the new Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry flagship store in Soho was in a jam. He needed help completing a set of polished steel doors for display cases for the store’s grand opening on Friday — Black Friday — in just three days.

After searching Google for a custom metal fabricator, he found the TMR website and picked up the phone and spoke with Scott Behr, TMR’s founder and president.

Scott assured Jack that TMR was the right choice for the job and instilled a sense of confidence and relief. The design and production teams at TMR have experience with this level of project and could manage the design, fabrication, and installation within the short time frame. The display case doors would be completed and installed beautifully for Friday’s opening.

Instead of watching the parade and eating turkey on Thanksgiving Day, the TMR team put in 24 hours of hardcore custom metal work and delivered as promised. Jack was psyched, and the store was ready in time for its Black Friday opening.

Congrats to the TMR team!

Converting an old warehouse into lofts?

Renovating a brownstone?

Designing a new restaurant?

One of the coolest parts of your new project could also be the least expected: custom metal fabrication.

Working with a custom metal fabricator as you move from the concept and planning stages all the way through design, fabrication, and installation can be an exciting experience, whether your project is for your own private home or for a client’s commercial space.

Interior Architects and Designers Enhance Their Work With Custom Metal Fabricators

For interior architects and interior designers, there is nothing quite like creating a space that goes beyond a client’s expectations or taking a blank space and molding it to reflect the look, feel, and style a client wants.

One of the most dramatic ways to accomplish this level of individuality in a space is through including custom-designed and custom-fabricated elements, be they decorative, functional, or both.

Why build a closed, wooden staircase when you can work with a custom metal fabricator and create the illusion of floating steps with a steel mono-stringer staircase?

Why buy mass-produced tables at a design warehouse when you can create focal points that also demonstrate your client’s dedication to conscious consumerism by instead choosing locally handcrafted, stylish steel tables made of upcycled metal scrap?

By working with a custom metal fabricator, you can turn an ordinary space into a canvas for a truly unique design.

TMRnyc works with professionals and private parties alike to create every type of custom-fabricated metal furnishing imaginable. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind bar for a client’s new restaurant or the perfect accent piece for your power office, we’ll work with you to craft exactly what you’re picturing.

Choosing a staircase can be a bit overwhelming once all of the options are laid out in front of you.

After all, a staircase is a fairly permanent structure, and its size alone makes it a major interior architecture element in any space.

The type of staircase you choose can have a massive impact on how you will use your space, how much square footage you’ll have to work with, and how the room(s) will look, so it’s important to take the time to understand your options and fully consider what will work best.

The Basics
A traditional staircase has several components. The horizontal parts of the stairs that we actually step on are called treads. The treads are generally supported at each end by upright elements called stringers. Stringers also support the risers, which are the vertical pieces set perpendicular to the treads.

The Materials
While more traditional staircases a typically made of various types of wood, steel has become very popular, particularly for use in modern and minimalist designs. In opting for a steel staircase, designers give themselves much more flexibility in how they will choose to use a space, as steel staircase materials are much stronger than their wooden counterparts and thus these structures can be built to take up less space, leaving more square footage available, which is ideal for anything from a private home to a commercial space.

The Design
The most popular type of steel staircase is arguably the steel mono-stringer staircase. This option is a particular favorite among modern designers, who enjoy the clean lines and open feel of the design.

With a steel mono-stringer staircase, there is only one stringer (as opposed to the standard two), and it runs down the center of the treads as opposed to encasing the sides. These staircases can be custom fabricated to fit the aesthetics of nearly any design style, and their lack of side supports typically allows for the area under the stairs to not only remain open and usable, but to become as integral a design element as the stairs themselves.

TMRncy creates custom-designed and –fabricated steel staircases with a specialty in steel mono-stringer staircases.

Contact us to find out how we can turn your metal staircase concept from utilitarian to unique.

In the never ending battle to provide differentiated food in New York City, Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio is certainly victorious. His new establishment, Colicchio and Sons, offers an assorted menu that ranges from braised rabbit leg with cheddar grits, poached egg, and soffrito to potatoes in a sawtooth ale broth. One way for Colicchio to compliment his eclectic methods of preparing proteins and starches is to add a wood-burning oven. We were responsible for fabricating and installing the paneling that surrounds the oven’s hood-vent. The paneling was fabricated out of 10′ x 3/8′ steel plate and are an impressive 9″ tall by 5″ wide. The fiery orange glow around the outside is a combination of interior lighting and pressed mica panelite. The installation was completed in only one day but will be provide Colicchio and Son’s with an aesthetic appeal for a long time to come.
