But we just can’t stand being typecast like a redheaded child star, so we have to break out of that custom metal role once in a while and make something a little different. And what’s as different as can be from sturdy, durable, tough-as-nails metal?

Mirrors. Gorgeous, stylish, who’s-the-fairest?-determining mirrors.

Our “Twin-Angle Mirror” is one you have to see in person. We get excited whenever somebody buys one because that means we get to make more. Then there’s the “Massive 4” Angle Mirror.” We chose this name because it really is that big.

A full-length mirror in a gorgeous steel angle frame, it’s ninety-six inches tall with an enormously fabulous steel frame that turns a bathroom standard to an any-room focal point. Last up, the “Channel Mirror.” This one is a 34-inch, rolled channel, steel-framed mirror. Simply gorgeous, this sleek, circular design fits well just about anywhere: home, office, lobby, restaurant, garage…

There’s nothing we like more than metal fabrication. Brooklyn is our home, and we love beautifying it (and all of NY) through custom metal work. How better to do that than by reflecting NY’s beauty back with some of the sweetest mirrors around?

Where do you want to add some beauty? Give us a call and we’ll help you get started.

At TMRnyc, we make unique metal products and perform custom metal fabrication NYC shop owners crave. But we also make custom metal furniture that can bring that one-of-a-kind feel to any home’s décor without breaking the bank.

We often hear from decorators and private parties who are looking for that one special piece that really makes a statement and serves as the focal point of a space.

And while they’re often already open to adding some unique metal products if they’ve sought us out, they do typically want those pieces to be more than art, more than designer conversation-starters. They want those elements to be functional, high quality, lasting pieces of furniture.

For these clients, we have a lot of fun building bookshelves, tables, and entertainment centers that fit the bill (and the space).

One of our favorites: The U-Shelf. This open-design entertainment center/shelving unit allows for easy access from both sides, making it ideal for electronic components while also enabling it to serve as a room separator – always a great idea for a small space!

Another consistent winner: The Swarf Table line. These urban chic, functionally artistic tables are made from upcycled swarf, making them ideal for conscious consumers and designers alike.

What are you looking for? Don’t see it on our site? That’s ok. That’s better than ok. That’s great!

We love a challenge, especially when it means we get to create custom metal furniture that’s just right for our clients. Touch base with us today, and let us know what you want to build.

It’s a chair! It’s a bench! It’s a table! It’s a … what exactly is that?

“That” is a diamond-plated box, and it’s one of the simplest yet most functional designs we’ve got here at TMRnyc’s metal fabrication shop.

Brooklyn, NYC residents and business owners alike have been snapping up these utilitarian conversation pieces because they’re not only completely on-trend, they’re diversely functional and durable.

Measuring 12 inches by 12 inches square and 20 inches high, the Diamond-Plated Box seating element is industrial and minimal in design, yet something about it simply works in modern, trendy spaces. Initially meant as seating options, we’ve seen plenty of clients use them as small metal tables.

NYC designers like them as edgy ottomans as well, and they just seem to pull their weight no matter where they’re placed in a room.

One of the fun things about custom metal furniture is that, unlike wood or plastic, metal is durable enough to be used in multiple ways without showing wear. In fact, most of our sleek designs look better as they develop a patina with age. So when it’s time for a change, you can take that Diamond-Plated Box and use it as a table instead of the chair it’s been, or vice versa.

Pair it with a funky table lamp if it used to be a seating element, or plunk it down in the middle of the room as a coffee table if you’ve been using it at the end of a couch. That’s the fun part: The Diamond-Plated Box is whatever you think it is. All we know is that it’s cool.

Or, if you’re more of a glass-half-full kind of person (or a kid), maybe it’s gift-receiving time.

Either way: presents! And some of this year’s most fabulous presents will undoubtedly be electronics.

But before you know it, it’ll be January, and while you’ll probably be well entrenched in your new love affair with Siri, you’ll also be looking for a place to dock and charge that new iPhone along with whatever other techno-goodies Santa dropped off.

Many people like to keep their devices handy while they’re charging, so it’s not uncommon to see coffee tables, side tables, and nightstands cluttered with various chargers: one for the Bluetooth, one for the iPad, one for the smartphone, one for the wireless drywall stud finder… All the important stuff.

Cleaning Up that Wire Mess

Unfortunately, all these cables and chargers and wires create a big, tangled mess and sometimes a tripping hazard too. That’s where the SideWired™ End Table comes in.

This is one of the most practical pieces of custom metal furniture we make here at TMRnyc, and it’s one of our favorites among our unique metal products.

Why? Because SideWired™ End Tables are more than just tables; these are smart small metal tables NYC residents absolutely love. Functional as an end table, nightstand, or occasional piece in a home or office environment, the SideWired™ End Table, along with the entire SideWired™line, has built-in outlets so you can plug your phone right into the table, reducing the cord clutter, outlet overloads, and tripping hazards.

Available in multiple finishes and sizes, the SideWired™ desks and tables also make great holiday gifts. Especially if you give them with an iPhone.

Contact TMRnyc to learn more about our SideWired™ furniture line, and how they can help clean your cord clutter.

The days of basement game rooms with mini fridges are long gone.

Today’s recreation spaces are full-fledged man caves, complete with high-definition plasma TVs, well-stocked wet bars, pool tables, wireless Internet, video gaming consoles, and high-end furniture.

These in-home retreats can have anything from mini gyms to bandstands and aquariums to retro arcade games. Man caves are personal spaces that can be tailored to any personality, interests, and hobbies, and they’re areas that see a lot of traffic.

That makes man caves ideal settings for custom metal furniture.

By integrating custom metal pieces such as small metal tables, NYC man caves can achieve a sleek, masculine aesthetic without wood pieces that are prone to water damage, nicks, dings, and scratches. At TMRnyc, we’ve created a variety custom metal furniture ideal for man caves.

One of our favorites is the Pipe Bomb Bar. We love the overall look of this piece, with its hand-rubbed blackened patina, just about as much as we love the name we came up with for it.

It’s the ultimate man cave accent furnishing, great for serving up drinks during the game and just as effective as a DJ stand for those nights when the tunes are really cranking. The hammered finish adds a subtle texture that really makes this piece stand out, even as it blends well into any masculine décor.

Are you building a man cave of your own? Give us a call and see what custom metal furniture can do to set your space apart from the rest.

At first glance, choosing furniture for your home or office doesn’t necessarily seem like a task that involves environmentalism or recycling.

But the truth is, when buying furniture, we can all make an effort toward conscious consumerism by selecting locally crafted unique metal products that last longer and produce less waste during the manufacturing process.

At TMRnyc, we’re committed to keeping our carbon footprint as small as possible by reducing manufacturing waste, turning swarf into functional art, and crafting products that last far beyond the lifespan of traditional wood furnishings.

“Swarf” is a catchall term used to describe the filings, shavings, and waste left over from the metalworking process.

Instead of recycling our swarf the way most fabricators do, we decided to salvage the laser-cut steel sheet drops to create our “greenest” product, the Swarf Table.

After our laser cutting, NYC master craftsmen gather the usable swarf to make these individually unique pieces, which are ideal for a broad range of uses: offices, lobbies, homes, and more.

That means your Swarf Table is made of upcycled materials; instead of being recycled, they’ve been put to use in new fabrication. New York City’s website for locally manufactured products, madeinnyc.org, has even included our Swarf Table among their green product listings.

We’re proud to create lasting, beautiful custom metal furnishings through environmentally conscious processes, and we’re always glad for the opportunity to sell to our local neighbors.

Come visit us in Brooklyn, and see how great buying local can be.

“Swarf” is simply a cool word for metal scrap.

Small filings, shavings, and other by-products are produced during the metal fabrication process, and these scraps are collectively called swarf.

Many companies simply recycle these bits of metalworking waste and debris.

However, at TMRnyc, committed as we are to environmentally responsible practices, we decided to take things a little further with our swarf and, instead of recycling it, we started upcycling it into a really fantastic line of tables: The Swarf Collection.

Our Swarf Tables are individual, one-of-a-kind, functional works of art crafted from salvaged, laser cut, steel sheet drops: in other words, swarf. We upcycle this typically wasted material into tables of various patterns and sizes, then finish the tables in a variety of fashions and even add custom-cut glass tops.

Why waste that which has potential to be something so unique, useful, and beautiful?

Composed of more than 85% recycled material, and crafted right here in Brooklyn, we’re proud to say that our Swarf Tables have landed TMRnyc on New York City’s “Made in NYC Green Products” list.

Buying from local producers is one way we can all be more conscious consumers, so check out the Made in NYC website for all sorts of great links, descriptions, and information about locally manufactured products.

Contact us for more information about swarf and schedule a time for a personal consultation.

Quite the weekend at the Brooklyn Flea this Sunday. Decided to bring out the old copper dining table to step things up this weekend and who other than who happens to show up on Sunday but Jerry Seinfeld and George Stephanopoulos. Rachel gave me the secret code for celebrity alert and when I turned around low and behold there they were sneaking down the staircase for a little lunchtime with the Flea Food Vendors. Now normally I don’t get terribly excited about seeing celebrities but nearing the end of the day ,Sam told me that Wyatt Cenac was upstairs so I had to give him an award for being so f@#*ing funny. One of my favorite bits was his collaboration with Slim Thug, “Still a Boss“. You have to check that out.

For the past several weeks we have been showcasing our products at the Brooklyn Flea Market. Located at One Hanson Place in downtown Brooklyn (take the subway to the Atlantic Avenue station), the Brooklyn Flea Market features countless local vendors and an impressive assortment of delicious food stands. Rachel Gehlert, TMR’s raging and engaging master of all trades, will not stop until she has found Anthi’s greek food stand.

TMR’s products are available at the market. The products that are available range from, but are not limited to, MetroCard Belt Buckles, Steel-ring bowls, Side-Wired Tables, Swarf Tables, and weekly creations by Scott Behr that are exclusive to the weekend event. Some recent creations have consisted of mini diamond do-whatever-you-want-it-to’s, steel-ring necklaces, and found furniture that transforms from trash to treasure with added steel accents.

Here is a video that our friend James Jones shot for us one weekend. Check out the video and then clear your Saturday and Sunday schedule for some Brooklyn trinket-treating and delicious food finding.
