Who made the dot screen at Sprinkles newest NYC location. That is right. TMR did! Each circle is fabricated from steel, water jet cut 1/4″ diameter circles, that are plug welded together and sandwiched by two pieces of aluminum. The pieces were then powder coated with seven different colors and baked in the oven for seven heats by our good friends at Carter Spray. Sprinkles was also recently featured in an Inc. magazine article about the cupcake craze sweeping the nation. TMR also fabricated the small tables you see in the article and the stainless steel walk of fame stars that are in the concrete. Sweet!

This was a fun project and a lot of work but well worth it for the phenomenal cupcakes they make. I highly recommend a visit.

This is how they would build the seating. These amazing lightweight stagecoach benches were meant to be sturdy and light, as well as offering some much needed suspension to the rider and driver over rocky trails. Thin steel rods support the arm rests and backs so that the wood construction can be as small and light as possible. The slats across the seat are very thin. The mechanics probably replaced them frequently as a few were broken. We reinforced the wood construction with a 3/16″ steel plate and hand forged support brackets that meshed with the hardware and blacksmithing technique of the time. The integrity and value of the antique was preserved in the event that the supports had to be removed, the goal of turning them into functional seating again was restored. You can visit these fine benches at a delicious new restaurant in Greenwich Village called Buvette. We enjoyed working with Chef Jody Williams and the Construction Management Firm of MG & Company who performed a phenomenal build with this restaurant.

Quite the weekend at the Brooklyn Flea this Sunday. Decided to bring out the old copper dining table to step things up this weekend and who other than who happens to show up on Sunday but Jerry Seinfeld and George Stephanopoulos. Rachel gave me the secret code for celebrity alert and when I turned around low and behold there they were sneaking down the staircase for a little lunchtime with the Flea Food Vendors. Now normally I don’t get terribly excited about seeing celebrities but nearing the end of the day ,Sam told me that Wyatt Cenac was upstairs so I had to give him an award for being so f@#*ing funny. One of my favorite bits was his collaboration with Slim Thug, “Still a Boss“. You have to check that out.

Rachel Gehlert, TMR’s raging and engaging master of all trades, will not stop until she has found Anthi’s greek food stand.

TMR’s products are available at the market. The products that are available range from, but are not limited to, MetroCard Belt Buckles, Steel-ring bowls, Side-Wired Tables, Swarf Tables, and weekly creations by Scott Behr that are exclusive to the weekend event. Some recent creations have consisted of mini diamond do-whatever-you-want-it-to’s, steel-ring necklaces, and found furniture that transforms from trash to treasure with added steel accents.

Here is a video that our friend James Jones shot for us one weekend. Check out the video and then clear your Saturday and Sunday schedule for some Brooklyn trinket-treating and delicious food finding.

This mono-stringer staircase was fabricated for a residential building near the courthouse in downtown Manhattan. The design of a mono-stringer staircase is based around the single support beam running up the middle of the steps. The support beam used in this project was fabricated out of 6″ x 6″ x .5″ steel and painted gloss white for the finish. Due to the size and weight of the support beam, it had to be crane lifted on to the roof for installation. The staircase led to the rooftop deck which meant that some heavy duty welding was required when faceting the beam to the header. It’s a good thing Brett Tetro was around.
