Quite the weekend at the Brooklyn Flea this Sunday. Decided to bring out the old copper dining table to step things up this weekend and who other than who happens to show up on Sunday but Jerry Seinfeld and George Stephanopoulos. Rachel gave me the secret code for celebrity alert and when I turned around low and behold there they were sneaking down the staircase for a little lunchtime with the Flea Food Vendors. Now normally I don’t get terribly excited about seeing celebrities but nearing the end of the day ,Sam told me that Wyatt Cenac was upstairs so I had to give him an award for being so f@#*ing funny. One of my favorite bits was his collaboration with Slim Thug, “Still a Boss“. You have to check that out.

For the past several weeks we have been showcasing our products at the Brooklyn Flea Market. Located at One Hanson Place in downtown Brooklyn (take the subway to the Atlantic Avenue station), the Brooklyn Flea Market features countless local vendors and an impressive assortment of delicious food stands. Rachel Gehlert, TMR’s raging and engaging master of all trades, will not stop until she has found Anthi’s greek food stand.

TMR’s products are available at the market. The products that are available range from, but are not limited to, MetroCard Belt Buckles, Steel-ring bowls, Side-Wired Tables, Swarf Tables, and weekly creations by Scott Behr that are exclusive to the weekend event. Some recent creations have consisted of mini diamond do-whatever-you-want-it-to’s, steel-ring necklaces, and found furniture that transforms from trash to treasure with added steel accents.

Here is a video that our friend James Jones shot for us one weekend. Check out the video and then clear your Saturday and Sunday schedule for some Brooklyn trinket-treating and delicious food finding.

Midtown’s Patroon Restaurant added a new rooftop bar, June 30, 2010. We fabricated and installed a giant, curved, stainless steel back bar and foot rail to compliment the modern atmosphere of the new space. Owner, Ken Aretsky, along with executive chef, Bill Peet, have received four star reviews for their blend of contemporary American cuisine and upscale dining. The Roof offers patrons the same edgy elegance in the form of an open-air lounge. To see the back bar stocked and ready for action, enjoy a cocktail and some fresh air at Aretsky’s Patroon.

Our very good friend and talented sculptor/ blacksmith Corrina Mensoff has come to town to exhibit her work on the East River this weekend. After enduring a grueling road trip from Atlanta including one alternator replacement and a very hairy scary, near death experience on the New Jersey turnpike due to a tire blow out, she and her assistant arrived safely yet frazzled the other night. After the blow out it took three hours to get the tire fixed with Tractor Trailers whizzing by and no show tow trucks, until someone finally came to their rescue. Speaking with her on the phone, I could hear and feel the trailers wooshing by. I was scared. AAA roadside assistance won’t give you a hand on route 73 so keep that in mind if you slip off of the Turnpike.

Heading out the next day to install the artwork, the good people at the state parks department decided her sculpture looked like laundry and that it needed to be relocated from the nice grass plot that was promised to a windy and noisy spot under the Manhattan Bridge, on top of a pile of boulders. I’m not quite sure where it has ended up but I went to go see how they were fairing after thinking, “What are you complaining about, you got a sculpture all the way from Atlanta and you get to exhibit it under the bridge!” Needless to say the spot didn’t work. The opening is this Saturday in Dumbo on the east river as per the info posted below. As of yet I don’t know where the sculpture has ended up out there but I hope it all got worked out. Come out on Saturday and enjoy a day in Dumbo.

Pictures to come.

27th Annual BWAC Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at

Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park

Opening Reception: Saturday July 25 3-7pm

Show Closes September 5, 2009

Brooklyn, NY The Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition (BWAC) in conjunction with the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation presents the 27th annual outdoor sculpture show at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park and the Brooklyn Bridge Park. The parks are situated in the thriving community of DUMBO between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges on the banks of the East River with dramatic views of the New York Harbor.

The title of the show is “Abundance”. Since the financial world seems to be focusing on the lack, this show points out that the bottom line provider, planet Earth, still provides for the people; the same way it did before the big financial crisis. The show focuses on work that is made from materials that are abundant; not scarce and expensive like a precious metal but rather plentiful or left over from something else. The show also focuses on sculpture that is made from a process of repetition or excess. This exhibition features work that rises above the economy.

Artists include:

William Brayton, Adam Junior, Miggy Buck, Yasmin Gur, Matthew Burke, Judy Thomas, Kirstin Campbell, Ursula Clark, Kevin Kelly,

Nova Mihai Popa, Martin Springhetti, Oscar Garcia, Sarah Haviland,

Jarett Hawkins, Cathrin Hoskinson, Michael Ritchie, Bernard Klevickas,

Corrina Mensoff (The Friendship Project), Steven Kroeger,

Maximilian Pelzmann, Tyrome Tripoli, Eric Von Arx, Summer Yates
