When you’re selling a home, Realtors spend a lot of time telling you to increase your “curb appeal.”

You know the concept: make the house look good from the outside to give a good first impression before buyers even cross the threshold. The same holds true for commercial spaces, particularly when you’re looking to increase foot traffic.

One way we like to help local business owners increase their curb appeal is by creating pieces through custom metal fabrication NYC shops can use to attract customers.

Even better, we make those unique metal products functional, so they’re more than eye candy – they’re usable, durable pieces of art that serve an actual purpose while also bringing in passersby.

44 Berry Awning Finished

Sometimes, a project like this is as simple as creating a unique awning for a storefront, as we did for the lofts at 44 Berry. This is a piece of custom metal work NYC residents in the area pass daily, and it serves as an address sign, awning, and artistic expression of the building’s overall feel.

For a restaurant, this type of external “branding” can be extremely attractive to potential diners, and that’s always money well spent.

Instead of the standard fare tables and chairs, you can create a bistro feel for your restaurant’s outdoor patio by having us create some customized small metal tables NYC commuters love for convenience and ambiance.

Set them under a specialty awning and pair with some chic lighting from our electrically inclined metal fabricators: NYC meets Paris right on your front patio.

What does your storefront say about you? Give TMRnyc a call and see how we can bring the indoor feel of your shop out into the light.

The right lighting can make a difference in how your furniture looks (especially that cool custom metal furniture!) by casting different levels of light and color, how comfortable the room is for reading or conversation, and how the atmosphere of the room feels.

Without the right lighting, your space can feel too bright, too dark, or uninspired. But with a little custom metal fabrication, NYC homes and businesses alike can have those unique metal products that create just the right finishing touches no matter where you need them.

True, usually we’re busy at TMRnyc making our super manly belt buckle, The RetroCard Belt Buckle; or our man-cave fave, The Pipe Bomb Bar. Or we’re off installing a mono stringer staircase or a custom sign or … you get the picture.

But we dig getting our electrical groove on with some lighting fabrication. And yes, it’s all UL-listed and all that good stuff. New York diners can catch glimpses of some of our handiwork over at Colicchio & Sons, where we installed some super cool custom lighting to make their oven hood glow like a burning ember.

Whether you need a massive lighting installation for your customized, wood-burning, industrial oven, or you just want some kickin’ sconces for your patio, TMRnyc has your lighting needs covered. Plus, we can make it all mesh and match with the rest of your custom metal furniture, because we’re cool like that.

Contact TMRnyc for your custom metal fabrication needs.

When you run just about any kind of business in New York City, space is at a premium.

For our clients, that usually means they want unique metal products that are not only going to set their spaces a cut above the competition from a design perspective, but that those products need to be both stylish and highly functional. Case in point: Colicchio & Sons at 15th street and 10th avenue.

We’ve done a couple of projects with Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio, and both were about maximum impact in minimum space. The first piece, paneling for the wood-burning oven’s vent hood, was all about ambiance and style through custom metal fabrication.

NYC diners can check out the fiery orange glow of the oven hood while dining on some of Colicchio’s fine offerings such as their delectable truffle celeriac agnolotti and verjus glazed rutabaga or their 30-day aged Niman ranch sirloin farro, crispy salsify and Castelfranco radicchio.

Utilizing just the space covering the vent hood, we were able to add visual warmth to the open kitchen without detracting from the style of the dining room itself.

The wood-burning oven brought about the need for another piece of custom metal work. With space at a NYC premium, where were they to store the wood? We solved this dilemma with a bold focal element that’s as functional as it is stylish.

We crafted two 9-foot-tall by 10-foot-wide blackened steel racks to house the firewood, and in doing so we created a dramatic visual element, a natural room separator, and a functional shelving solution, all while complementing the aesthetics of the restaurant and maintaining the size of the dining space.

Do you have a unique need for shelving, storage, or functional furnishings in your commercial space? Connect with us to see how we can take your design, and your space, to the next level.

Clients often come to us asking how they can add some unique style to their office spaces without being too trendy or making their office decor distracting.

For us, this is one of the most fun aspects of custom metal work: NYC business owners seeking us out to help them make an individual, distinctive statement that truly adds to their décor and serves to elicit conversation or create a bold first impression.

While it’s always fun having a blank slate to work with so we can structure a lobby around a sweeping, mono-stringer staircase, it’s an equally enjoyable challenge to come up with unique metal products that work within the confines of existing spaces and décor.

Custom Metal Furniture For The Office

The first thing we tell clients looking to jazz up their office spaces with custom metal furniture is this: even small pieces can have a big impact.

For instance, we make small metal tables NYC business owners love because these unique pieces are on-trend, different than the expected wood and glass, and fantastically durable in high-traffic areas. Functional statement pieces like these are easy to fit into nearly any style of office, especially because we make them available in such a wide variety of colors and finishes.

Making a statement doesn’t have to mean redoing your entire office. It truly can be accomplished by integrating the right custom metal pieces into your existing décor. For some great ideas, check out our Swarf tables, always a favorite among conscious consumers; or have a look at the edgy Pipe Bomb Bar, a masculine design that works as well in an office as it does in the hippest of man caves.

Give us a call and see how you can add style to your office in a unique way.

These days, people are in a hurry pretty much no matter where they are or what they’re doing. Especially in a big city, life is one big rush (and not the good kind people get from bungee jumping or rock climbing, either).

For small business owners, this fast-paced lifestyle means consumers have even less time to shop in stores.

For restaurant owners: consumers have less time to travel 10 blocks for lunch.

So, perhaps now more than ever, having a mobile metal kiosk is a great way to bring your products to consumers, all without having to open an additional brick-and-mortar location.

Benefits of Mobile Metal Kiosks

Kiosks are more than the wooden wagon-style stands you see at local malls, and they’ve moved far beyond the corner hot-dog stand. Today’s kiosks are mobile, highly functional, cost-effective miniature versions of the restaurants and shops they represent. When properly designed and located, they can draw significant foot traffic and result in far more impulse purchases than a store, all without breaking the bank.

Building a kiosk is a big job, and one that requires a lot of expertise. At TMRnyc, we know kiosks and we know custom metal fabrication. Greenpoint, Brooklyn-based, we are local. We know the market, and we’ve built successful, functional kiosks New Yorkers frequent daily at The World Financial Center, such as Ed’s Lobster Bar and Harry’s Italian.

Contact us, and we’ll show you how our design team and fabricators will work with you to maintain a consistent corporate image, promote your brand, and draw in foot traffic through an energy-efficient, cost-effective custom kiosk.

We’re proud to be metal fabricators that NYC business owners rely on for custom metal projects such as kiosks and signs, and we look forward to working with you.

The call came in last Tuesday afternoon right before Thanksgiving.

Jack Gold, owner of Presidential Interiors and the millwork contractor on the build out of the new Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry flagship store in Soho was in a jam. He needed help completing a set of polished steel doors for display cases for the store’s grand opening on Friday — Black Friday — in just three days.

After searching Google for a custom metal fabricator, he found the TMR website and picked up the phone and spoke with Scott Behr, TMR’s founder and president.

Scott assured Jack that TMR was the right choice for the job and instilled a sense of confidence and relief. The design and production teams at TMR have experience with this level of project and could manage the design, fabrication, and installation within the short time frame. The display case doors would be completed and installed beautifully for Friday’s opening.

Instead of watching the parade and eating turkey on Thanksgiving Day, the TMR team put in 24 hours of hardcore custom metal work and delivered as promised. Jack was psyched, and the store was ready in time for its Black Friday opening.

Congrats to the TMR team!

Custom metal fabrication is a high-demand industry and one that requires extensive knowledge and skill due to both the nature of the work and the broad range of products and services involved.

For interior architects planning out a new space, custom metal fabricators provide the means to incorporate design options no other craftsman, builder, or tradesperson could produce such as floating, steel mono-stringer staircases and custom lighting fixtures.

Designers enjoy working with custom metal fabricators to create just the right accent pieces, unique design elements, and both indoor and outdoor furnishings. Beyond that, business owners benefit from working with custom metal fabricators for items such as custom signage and specialized shop décor, furnishings, bars, and counters.

Why Is Custom Metal Fabrication A Good Idea?

Custom metal fabrication works for all of these industries because a skilled, experienced metal fabrication team can take a simple concept, a drawing, an idea, and make it a reality through metalwork.

Using state-of-the-art tools and techniques, metal fabricators can turn simple metal into everything from stylish side tables to cool belt buckles to unique staircases. These artisans often work in tandem with other master craftspeople such as blacksmiths, jewelers, glass blowers and casters, mold makers, and woodworkers to create unique, lasting, hand-crafted products that stand apart and truly make a statement.

Converting an old warehouse into lofts?

Renovating a brownstone?

Designing a new restaurant?

One of the coolest parts of your new project could also be the least expected: custom metal fabrication.

Working with a custom metal fabricator as you move from the concept and planning stages all the way through design, fabrication, and installation can be an exciting experience, whether your project is for your own private home or for a client’s commercial space.

Interior Architects and Designers Enhance Their Work With Custom Metal Fabricators

For interior architects and interior designers, there is nothing quite like creating a space that goes beyond a client’s expectations or taking a blank space and molding it to reflect the look, feel, and style a client wants.

One of the most dramatic ways to accomplish this level of individuality in a space is through including custom-designed and custom-fabricated elements, be they decorative, functional, or both.

Why build a closed, wooden staircase when you can work with a custom metal fabricator and create the illusion of floating steps with a steel mono-stringer staircase?

Why buy mass-produced tables at a design warehouse when you can create focal points that also demonstrate your client’s dedication to conscious consumerism by instead choosing locally handcrafted, stylish steel tables made of upcycled metal scrap?

By working with a custom metal fabricator, you can turn an ordinary space into a canvas for a truly unique design.

TMRnyc works with professionals and private parties alike to create every type of custom-fabricated metal furnishing imaginable. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind bar for a client’s new restaurant or the perfect accent piece for your power office, we’ll work with you to craft exactly what you’re picturing.

Choosing a staircase can be a bit overwhelming once all of the options are laid out in front of you.

After all, a staircase is a fairly permanent structure, and its size alone makes it a major interior architecture element in any space.

The type of staircase you choose can have a massive impact on how you will use your space, how much square footage you’ll have to work with, and how the room(s) will look, so it’s important to take the time to understand your options and fully consider what will work best.

The Basics
A traditional staircase has several components. The horizontal parts of the stairs that we actually step on are called treads. The treads are generally supported at each end by upright elements called stringers. Stringers also support the risers, which are the vertical pieces set perpendicular to the treads.

The Materials
While more traditional staircases a typically made of various types of wood, steel has become very popular, particularly for use in modern and minimalist designs. In opting for a steel staircase, designers give themselves much more flexibility in how they will choose to use a space, as steel staircase materials are much stronger than their wooden counterparts and thus these structures can be built to take up less space, leaving more square footage available, which is ideal for anything from a private home to a commercial space.

The Design
The most popular type of steel staircase is arguably the steel mono-stringer staircase. This option is a particular favorite among modern designers, who enjoy the clean lines and open feel of the design.

With a steel mono-stringer staircase, there is only one stringer (as opposed to the standard two), and it runs down the center of the treads as opposed to encasing the sides. These staircases can be custom fabricated to fit the aesthetics of nearly any design style, and their lack of side supports typically allows for the area under the stairs to not only remain open and usable, but to become as integral a design element as the stairs themselves.

TMRncy creates custom-designed and –fabricated steel staircases with a specialty in steel mono-stringer staircases.

Contact us to find out how we can turn your metal staircase concept from utilitarian to unique.
