In the never ending battle to provide differentiated food in New York City, Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio is certainly victorious. His new establishment, Colicchio and Sons, offers an assorted menu that ranges from braised rabbit leg with cheddar grits, poached egg, and soffrito to potatoes in a sawtooth ale broth. One way for Colicchio to compliment his eclectic methods of preparing proteins and starches is to add a wood-burning oven. We were responsible for fabricating and installing the paneling that surrounds the oven’s hood-vent. The paneling was fabricated out of 10′ x 3/8′ steel plate and are an impressive 9″ tall by 5″ wide. The fiery orange glow around the outside is a combination of interior lighting and pressed mica panelite. The installation was completed in only one day but will be provide Colicchio and Son’s with an aesthetic appeal for a long time to come.

Patroon Restaurant and Bar

Midtown’s Patroon Restaurant added a new rooftop bar, June 30, 2010. We fabricated and installed a giant, curved, stainless steel back bar and foot rail to compliment the modern atmosphere of the new space. Owner, Ken Aretsky, along with executive chef, Bill Peet, have received four star reviews for their blend of contemporary American cuisine and upscale dining. The Roof offers patrons the same edgy elegance in the form of an open-air lounge. To see the back bar stocked and ready for action, enjoy a cocktail and some fresh air at Aretsky’s Patroon.

Plein Sud Staircase

M.C. Escher himself would have been impressed with this project. The goal for this project was to create a staircase that also appeared to be upside down. The project, located at The Smyth Hotel in Tribeca, was centered around the bar and led to the downstairs lounge. The Smyth Hotel is highly acclaimed for providing both hotel accommodations and upscale residences with a distinguished modern appeal. If you ever get the chance to go see the project, keep your eyes open, David Bowie might just be walking down the stairs singing Within You.

WFC Kiosk Project

The World Financial Center looked to increase the appeal of it’s plaza by creating a lunch friendly atmosphere with kiosks that would serve food from local vendors. Restaurants such as Ed’s Lobster Bar have created a lot of talk about the plaza and spurred interest in the new lunch destination. Other vendors include Harry’s Italian and Quality Burger. All three of these restaurants are institutions in the Manhattan area and are sure to provide a meal worth traveling for.

TMRnyc recently designed and built this awning for the new 44 Berry Loft Apartments just in time for the onslaught of rain New York has had this June. Drawing on influences from New York’s illustrious Art Deco past, we created this simple and effective awning on a tight budget.

Designer Pages – NEOCON 2009 Table Commissions

Designer Pages , the new source for searching products in Architecture and Design, commissioned TMRnyc to design and build three SideWired tables for their booth at the NEOCON 2009 expo in Chicago. One being 10′ long. More pictures to follow. Their booth included a giant 12′ media wall that was running a Twitter app featuring all of the Tweets during the show. Farrokh at Farrodyne provided the water jet cutting and installation for us in Chicago. Actually, Farrodyne saved our collective butts after one unmentionable glass company in Chicago dropped the ball at the last minute. They couldn’t understand why I was upset for some reason and then went into this whole “You’re from New York and you have a bad NY attitude” Is there some weird New York/Chicago beef I am missing? Fill me in.
